CVSS v3.1 |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
btrfs: scrub: fix local_root reference leak in scrub_print_warning_inode()
When paths_from_inode() fails, scrub_print_warning_inode() jumps to err
without dropping the reference taken by btrfs_get_fs_root(), leaking a
reference to the root every time path resolution fails while printing
scrub warnings. Every other error and success path of the function
drops the reference.
Drop the reference on the paths_from_inode() failure path too. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
gpio: xilinx: fix runtime PM leak on request error path
pm_runtime_get_sync() leaves the usage counter incremented even when it
fails, and xgpio_request() returns the error without dropping it.
gpiolib does not call ->free() when ->request() fails, so xgpio_free(),
which holds the only matching pm_runtime_put(), never runs. The reference
is leaked and the controller can no longer runtime-suspend, so its clock
stays enabled.
Switch to pm_runtime_resume_and_get(), which only increments the usage
counter on success. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
scsi: ch: Do not keep references to data transfer element devices
ch_readconfig() looks up the scsi_device of every data transfer element
whose SCSI id the changer reports in READ ELEMENT STATUS, and stores it in
ch->dt[]. scsi_device_lookup() takes a reference, and nothing ever drops
it: ch_destroy() frees the array with kfree(). ch->dt[] is read nowhere
else - it only supplies the vendor, model and revision printed in the same
loop.
Once such a drive is removed, its scsi_device can never be released. It
stays on the host's device list at its address, so a new device there is
refused by anything that walks the list - target_core_pscsi reports
"scsi_device_get() failed for H:C:T:L" - and the low-level driver's module
can no longer be unloaded. Only a reboot recovers.
It shows with any changer that reports its drives' ids; with the mhvtl
virtual library (IBM 3573-TL personality), each create and remove of a
library with four drives leaves four references behind, counted by the
module's use count in lsmod. With ch not bound the count is unchanged, and
with this patch applied it is unchanged too.
Drop the reference as soon as the name has been printed, and remove the now
unused dt[] array. That also removes the array leaked when ch_probe() fails
after ch_readconfig().
The same leak was reported with an RFC patch in 2022, which was not merged. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
wifi: ath11k: reset ar->num_stations on hardware start
When (multiple) hw restart occurs, we end up in a situation where we
cannot accept new stations / mesh peers. This seems to be the
'num_stations' in 'struct ath11k' that did not get reset properly in
this case. In ath11k_mac_op_start(), it was indeed the only accounting var
that did not get reset so let's clear it too.
This avoids problems like those:

| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
rtc: dev: zero-initialize struct rtc_wkalrm to prevent information leak
The struct rtc_wkalrm has padding holes after the 'pending' member.
When returned to userspace via the RTC_WKALRM_RD ioctl, uninitialized
kernel stack data residing in these holes may be leaked.
Zero-initialize the struct at declaration to eliminate this information
leak risk.
Fixes smatch warnings:
- drivers/rtc/dev.c:392 rtc_dev_ioctl() warn: check that 'alarm' doesn't
leak information (struct has a hole after 'pending') |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
netfilter: nft_flow_offload: drop flowtable reference on init error path
nft_flow_offload_init() bumps the flowtable use count with
nft_use_inc() before calling nf_ct_netns_get(). When the latter
fails, the error is returned as-is and the reference is leaked.
The upper layers do not balance it either: nf_tables_newexpr()
clears expr->ops when the expression init callback fails, so the
nft_expr_more() iteration in nft_rule_expr_deactivate() and
nf_tables_rule_destroy() stops right before the failed expression
and its ->destroy callback, which would drop the reference, never
runs.
Each failed rule addition therefore leaks one flowtable reference
and the flowtable can no longer be removed: NFT_MSG_DELFLOWTABLE
keeps reporting -EBUSY even though no rule references it.
Save the nf_ct_netns_get() return value and undo the nft_use_inc()
when it fails, restoring the inc/dec pairing within
nft_flow_offload_init() itself. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
usb: storage: sierra_ms: reject short SWoC info transfers
sierra_get_swoc_info() requests sizeof(struct swoc_info) (60) bytes
from the device via usb_control_msg(), but its callers only treat a
negative return value as failure. A device that answers the
vendor-specific GetSwocInfo request with a short IN transfer is
therefore accepted, leaving the tail of the freshly allocated
(kmalloc(), non-zeroing) swoc_info buffer uninitialized.
truinst_show() subsequently prints swocInfo->rev, swocInfo->LinuxSKU
and swocInfo->LinuxVer from that buffer into the world-readable
(0444) "truinst" sysfs attribute. An emulated/malicious USB device
(VID 0x1199, PID 0x0fff) can exploit this to disclose up to 5 bytes
of stale kernel heap memory (kmalloc-64) to unprivileged userspace,
once per sysfs read, indefinitely. On kernels built without
init_on_alloc this leaks recently freed heap contents.
Only accept the transfer when the full structure was received.
sierra_ms_init() already retries failed queries, so well-behaved
devices are unaffected. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
tty: vcc: zero-initialize control packet in vcc_send_ctl()
The stack-allocated struct vio_vcc pkt was partially initialized,
leaving the tag.stype_env field uninitialized before being sent via
ldc_write(), potentially leaking kernel stack data to the LDC peer. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
mtd: rawnand: cadence: Initialize IRQ state before requesting IRQ
The Cadence NAND interrupt handler uses both the IRQ lock and completion
object. Registering the IRQ before initializing them leaves a window in
which a pending interrupt can access uninitialized synchronization state.
Initialize them before registering the handler. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
wifi: mac80211: set info->band for 802.3 encap offload frames
Unlike the 802.11 TX paths, ieee80211_8023_xmit() does not set
info->band from the channel context on non-MLD interfaces. It stays at
0, so ieee80211_get_tx_rates() uses the wrong band for these frames.
Set it the same way as ieee80211_build_hdr(): drop the frame if there is
no channel context, and leave the band at 0 on MLD interfaces. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
smb: client: discard post-EOF pagecache when extending a file via zero range
smb3_zero_range() removed the pagecache only for the range being zeroed,
so when it extends the file the folio straddling the old EOF - which may
hold data dirtied past EOF through an mmap - was never dropped and became
visible as file content once the file was extended.
Lower the discard boundary to the smaller of the zero-range offset and the
old EOF. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
iio: accel: kxcjk-1013: reject duplicate event disable
The IIO core does not filter duplicate writes to the event enable
attribute. kxcjk1013_write_event_config() already ignores repeated
enable requests, but a repeated disable request still calls
kxcjk1013_set_power_state(data, false), dropping a runtime PM reference
that was not acquired for this request. This can underflow the runtime
PM usage count and trigger a "Runtime PM usage count underflow" warning.
Return early when the requested state already matches ev_enable_state. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
iio: buffer: Ensure bounce buffer used for unaligned case is zeroed.
iio_push_to_buffers_with_ts_unaligned() leaks uninitialized heap memory
to userspace if the data passed in is not a multiple of 8 bytes and the
timestamp is enabled. Specify __GFP_ZERO for the devm_krealloc()
to ensure any extra space is cleared. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
drm/amdgpu: Fix runtime PM leak in amdgpu_debugfs_test_ib_show()
amdgpu_debugfs_test_ib_show() resumes the device with
pm_runtime_get_sync() before taking the reset domain semaphore with
down_write_killable(). If the write lock acquisition is interrupted,
the function returns without calling pm_runtime_put_autosuspend(),
leaking the runtime PM reference acquired for the device and keeping
the GPU awake.
Drop the runtime PM reference on the interrupted down_write_killable()
error path before returning.

| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
drm/nouveau: don't bump pin count on failed re-pin in nouveau_bo_pin_locked()
nouveau_bo_pin_locked() checks whether an already pinned BO is in a
memory domain compatible with a new pin request. When the domains are
incompatible, it sets -EBUSY but still calls ttm_bo_pin() before
returning.
Callers treat a failed nouveau_bo_pin() as not having acquired a new pin,
so the extra pin count is never decreased by a matching unpin.
This triggers the warning in ttm_bo_release():
WARN_ON_ONCE(bo->pin_count);
Found when fuzzing the nouveau driver with a modified Syzkaller:

| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
smb: client: fix cifsFileInfo reference leak in deferred close
When cifs_close() defers a close, it hands the cifsFileInfo reference
of the closing struct file to the queued work. Each execution of
smb2_deferred_work_close() drops one such reference.
deferred_close_scheduled can be false while the work is pending: the
workqueue clears PENDING when the callback starts to run, before the
callback clears the flag under deferred_lock. A close in that
interval requeues the running work, and the callback then clears the
flag, leaving the requeued work pending with the flag down. A later
cifs_open() can reuse the handle and its cifs_close() reaches the
same branch: queue_delayed_work() fails because the work is still
pending, but cifs_close() returns without dropping the closing file's
reference. The cifsFileInfo count stays pinned and its tlink, dentry
and server handle are leaked.
Check the return value and hand off the reference only when work was
actually queued. Otherwise, use the shared _cifsFileInfo_put(), like
the mod_delayed_work() branch above: the pending execution already
owns its reference.
This issue was found by an in-house static analysis tool. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
smb: client: avoid leaking refcount in cifs_queue_oplock_break()
cifs_queue_oplock_break() unconditionally takes a reference on the
target file before queueing cifs_oplock_break(). Only that work item
decreases the reference counter again.
If another oplock break arrives while that work is still queued,
queue_work() will return false and not queue this second work item. As a
result, we will never reach the point to drop the file reference again
and are leaking this reference. This can be triggered when interacting
with a slow-responding server.
As a result, later unmount operations for this file system will fail with
BUG: Dentry ... still in use (1) [unmount of cifs cifs]
VFS: Busy inodes after unmount of cifs (cifs)
kernel BUG at fs/super.c:777!
Fix this by only incrementing the reference count if the work has been
queued successfully. Taking it after queue_work() is safe because all
three callers hold tcon->open_file_lock across the call and
_cifsFileInfo_put() decrements under that same lock, so a worker that
starts the handler in the window cannot drop the reference before it has
been taken. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
smb: client: avoid leaking refcount when cifs_sb_tlink() fails
cifs_oplock_break() takes over the reference that
cifs_queue_oplock_break() acquired when it queued the work, and drops it
with _cifsFileInfo_put() once the break has been processed.
Only in setups with "-o multiuser", cifs_sb_tlink() may fail, at which
point cifs_oplock_break() returns without putting the file reference,
mirroring the reference leak we already fixed in the companion patch to
cifs_queue_oplock_break().
This would trigger a crash due to busy inodes on the next unmount:
BUG: Dentry ... still in use (1) [unmount of cifs cifs]
VFS: Busy inodes after unmount of cifs (cifs)
Drop the reference on that path as well. Doing so before the out label
mirrors the normal path, which also puts the reference before
cifs_done_oplock_break().
Found by Sashiko code review. The failure path was not exercised at
runtime. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
smb: client: avoid using uninitialized SIDs in cifs_posix_to_fattr()
cifs_posix_to_fattr() ignores the return value of posix_info_parse().
When a malformed POSIX directory entry is encountered (e.g. invalid
SID lengths from an untrusted server), posix_info_parse() returns -1
without populating the 'parsed' struct. The uninitialized stack
memory in parsed.owner and parsed.group is then passed to
sid_to_id(), which processes the garbage bytes and passes them to
request_key() to construct a SID string, potentially leaking kernel
stack contents to the userspace idmap daemon.
Fix this by checking the return value and skipping the SID-to-id
mapping when parsing fails. The remaining fattr fields (timestamps,
mode, etc.) are populated directly from the 'info' pointer so they
are unaffected. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
RDMA/counter: Fix num_counters leak on bind_qp failure in alloc_and_bind()
When __rdma_counter_bind_qp() fails in alloc_and_bind(), the error path
jumps to err_mode which frees the counter without decrementing
port_counter->num_counters. The only place that decrements is
rdma_counter_free(), which is unreachable since the counter was never
successfully bound.
This leak accumulates across repeated failures, permanently preventing
the port from switching to AUTO mode (-EBUSY in __counter_set_mode())
and blocking the MANUAL→NONE auto-revert in rdma_counter_free(). When
the mode was NONE before the call, the MANUAL mode set by
__counter_set_mode() also leaks since the revert logic is never
reached.
Add an err_bind label between the num_counters increment and the
existing err_mode label. It decrements num_counters and mirrors the
MANUAL→NONE revert from rdma_counter_free(), ensuring the port state
is fully restored on bind failure. |
